Poem 26 – Drowning

Since you said no,
You stole my every breath
Choking my gasps for air with a single word.
Since you said no,
Every day has felt like drowning,
As I slipped beneath your deadly waters unheard.

I can’t quite believe I’m not over you yet,
I don’t really understand how love stayed,
But ever since that moment I’ve struggled underwater
And wished that I could breathe again – I wished and hoped and prayed.

Since you said no,
And I didn’t believe you
Endless oceans have surrounded my dark head.
Since you said no,
My heart has petrified –
Drowned and submerged, my heart is dead.
