Poem 138 – To Forget You

To forget you I’d have to lose those thoughts,
The thoughts the same as my soul,
Which make me swear to fall for you,
Surrender all I own,
Merely for a moment in your eyes.

To forget you I’d have to tear them out,
Rip the heart that bears them from my breast
Still beating; to grow cold and still,
Saturated with the sweet love it bears –
To forget my love for you I’d have to die.

Dear readers,

This poem came to me as I wrote the previous poem ‘How Could I Forget You?‘ The original title of that poem was ‘To Forget You’, which then became the central concept of this poem. It’s essentially in blank verse, something I use rarely and with caution – but I think it works here. What do you think?

Kind regards,

Tell us what you thought, or if to you these words are naught.
