Poem 226 – The Ultimate Prize

What might lead
To happier life, knowledge of good and evil

Milton, Paradise Lost, Book IX, 696-7

This is the ultimate prize
The treasure of treasures
And to take it shows you are wise.
Sieze the day, and become wiser still,
With a bite, gain knowledge
Both of good and evil.

Dear readers,

This is it – the seduction that leads to the fall. Two poems resulted from this moment – one today, the other on Friday, which is more loosely based on it. But I just love the idea of knowledge of good and evil coming from one moment, and how important that moment becomes.

Happy New Year!
