As Satan acts in the garden of Eden, Sin and Death leave Hell to create a bridge so that the other demons can follow Satan more easily (Book X).
Oh, vaulting arches, ice-capped stones,
Majestic road into oblivion in hell,
How wonderful you seem,
Constructed of pain itself by the villainous Sin and Death,
That Paradise might be invaded by demonkind
And perpetual bliss there end.
You betray the God of the universe,
And serve cunning Satan’s change.
Strangely, there is no quote – I just liked the image of a bridge going through the space between earth and Hell.
