Poem 335 – How to make Poetry

I am a poet.
I write words.
Sometimes the words are phenomenologically notable,
Since they’re long.
Other times they’re short.
With snap, strength, love.
The rhythm changes from
Tumpty, tumpty tumpty tum
To tum-Tum, tum-TUM, tum TUM TUM TUM
But really all that matters
Is that sentences are
Truncated, split across
Lines – this makes mere words
Poetry. This makes my words
Poetry.

Dear readers,

I generally like poetry – as I suspect is suggested by my blog’s existence. However, I dislike the genre of poetry (which I have contributed to frequently) which reads like a normal paragraph, except somebody has pressed ‘ENTER’ too many times. Sometimes this works, but all too often it masks perfectly good prose to shoehorn it into become adequate verse.

Kind regards,

The Hapless Neo-Romantic
