Poem 366 – Ah!

Ah! That much-worked sound,
Preserve of dentists and choirs,
A way to fill the passing time
With noise, of use to liars
Pretending they know with a well-placed ‘ah’,
And for pirates who sail the sea,
But to me such usage seems to cheap
When words can come so freely.

Dear readers,

This poem was inspired by listening to a piece where the composer had a choir sit there for well over an hour, so that they could stand and sing ‘ah’ very quietly in the background. Considering what hiring the choir must have cost, one would at least expect them to need to make the effort of using words…

Kind regards,

The Hapless Neo-Romantic
